We were meant to meet & stay with a good friend, Marc, in Berlin. However, last minute he had to go on a business trip. Well, Marc is such a nice guy, he booked us into a hotel for 2 nights,but, not any old hotel, it was Radisson Blu !DSC0012510290211_4092091158591_710058027_o[1]

 

So we had a nice day doing typical touristy things around Berlin before gig day 😉 On the day, we met some online friends, Andy, Laura & Giana. It’s always cool meeting people on the travels.Went for a beer with Andy & then found out they’d opened doors early, which was annoying as me & Kristina like to be on front row if possible. Oh well,where there’s a will, there’s a way….having seen this tour already, i knew that Ben from Smoking Hearts sticks the mic out to try get someone to sing. Well, yours truly got jumping around a bit & when it was time, get in there ! Result = 2nd row for myself & first row Kristina (though the girl next to her didn’t seem too happy haha)

Venue was changed to Huxleys. This worked out perfect for our hotel 😉 We all make mistakes ! After this show, i’m not allowed to book the hotels anymore! Hey, i’d not been there before, so you don’t know how a place is until you visit right? Well, the guys got into Berlin before i did & they were not impressed with the hotel. Comments like “the bed sheets were crispy!”, “The room smelled bad” etc sealed the deal! Luckily, I was still on my train when they phoned & told me they’d changed hotel. In fact, not only was it a better hotel, but, it was very close to the venue, so win win 🙂 There was also a great little bar nearby, so it was perfect. What could possibly go wrong ? 😉

Columbiahalle is one of my fave venues in the world ! Ever since first seeing Guano Apes there back in 2000, i always look forward to visiting there again. At this show, Skunk filmed the gig & you could buy it on a wristband that had a mini USB drive which included it! How cool was that ?

My Balloon, Guano Apes, Hyena , @ Waschaus, Potsdam,Berlin, 12-1-02

This was a very special show. It was a SECRET gig by Guano Apes to try out new songs etc. The played with My Balloon & a great little band called Hyena (really wish i’d got to see Hyena again) . I met up with Christiane, we went for a drink somewhere & then to the venue. It was cold, there was snow on the ground (It wasn’t the first time i was bothered if my flight would work out ok due to weather!) but it was fun. The guys drove there in Hennings car i think. Great seeing them all again. During the afternoon, Sandra confessed to me that she didn’t have proper lyrics for the songs yet 😉 I also met Marc for the first time at this show ( Me? Scary? . No way mate 😉 )The absolute highlight for me though was when we were sat backstage : Stude gave me a CD with demos for the next album (about a year before it’s release). I couldn’t believe it. I was so honoured that they all trusted me enough to let me hear this stuff. Unbelievable. When the after party finished, once again the guys showed what true gents they were : i shared Hennings hotel room & i think Stude joined Ingo so that Christiane had a room for herself. Next day i had a nice walk “through the ice & snow” which wasn’t much fun tbh. But hey, for such a great unique experience, it was all worth it 🙂

GAPotsdam3This is “Hyena” the first band. They were great. If by any chance the members of Hyena or their friends see this, if possible, i’d love to get some recordings…i’m sure there must have been something 🙂

Guano Apes, Uncle Ho, @ Columbiahalle, Berlin , Germany 2-6-00

Well this was a dream come true, thanks to Henning ! My first AAA laminate & i get to travel on the tour bus! Pinch me! Is this really real?!! When the band arrived, i was took to the tour bus where i met Axel. Apparently, this was the first tour where the band traveled separately to the road crew. It was all so different & exciting. I felt truly honored to be allowed into this small circle & i’ll never forget this & all the other amazing times i had with the band & crew.

Berlin, Town & Country Club,London, 9-3-87

This was fantastic. I went there without a ticket & bought one off a tout for less than face value. The place wasn’t very busy. But what a show. I loved it. There’s a LOT more to Berlin than “Take My Breath Away”. Stand out moment was when Terri walked into the crowd, up the stairs, across the balcony, back down opposite side stairs & back up on stage whilst singing…cannot remember which song.(EDIT : 2 people have said it was “Pink & Velvet” that she sung) Really hope one day i get the chance to see Berlin or Terri again.

UPDATE 2019 : OMFG they’re coming back to the UK ! Never thought this would happen in my lifetime. Smaller venues than I thought they’d be, but more intimate.

UPDATE 2020 : So my luck folded 🙁 Originally the tour was semi-cancelled with a few dates remaining. Then ALL the dates were cancelled. Such a shame. Had been looking forward to a Berlin tour since 1987. I very much doubt that I’ll see them in my lifetime now…
