Yeah they were typically late on. But it was a really good show considering š
The biggest, the best & unfortunately the worst also š The biggest ever attendance at Monsters. Unfortunately, it got too dangerous. During Guns set the whole crowd towards the front moved. 2 people got crushed under foot & died. It’s the most frightened I’ve ever been at a gig. Was hard to keep stood up & not get trampled even towards the side… Maiden were fantastic.
After the tragedy in ’88 there were lessons learned about crowd safety. There was a full inquiry about the events. You can view this online here :

This resulted in “The guide to health, safety & welfare at pop concerts & similar events”. In the industry, it’sĀ referred Ā to as “The Purple Guide “. There used to be a copy of this online & it was free to view, but now, it seems you have to pay.
One of those shows where you just had to be there. Pretty legendary night. Good quote of the night ” You’re packed in like sardines”. To this day, i still don’t know exactly what happenedĀ at the end of “Paradise City”, but whatever it was, it pissed off Axl : ” Fuck face ! Just for that you can suck on the encore ! “. Sure enough, they didn’t come back on for an encore. I think this might have been the shortest show they played on the UK tour š Actually, when they’d finished, loads of people just stayed there. They played WASP Wild Child over the PA & people were still shouting for Guns. We expected to get em back, but didn’t ;-(
As legendary gigs go, this is right up there. Of course, at the time, i didn’t realise it would go down in history so much. For me, it was checking out this great band from the States. But not only that, i also saw one of Little Angels first gigs in London. No ticket from the night, but, i do have a recording š
