Was horrible to see Lemmy fading away.
Great organisation at this festival. The way it should be. They actually gave me a pass for the whole festival, but, i only stayed for a day. A Good day as well ! Great to finally see Die Happy. After the gig a bunch of us hung around on this very cold night waiting for early morning buses. P.S. Thats Sandra back stage on the quad bike, having a driving lesson (At the time, she couldn’t drive)
Brilliant day with great bands. Def Leppard was a very emotional affair as it was the “Return Of The Thunder God”. Scorpions had amazing sound quality, as did Ozzy. Andrew was fucked up BEFORE we even got in there ! A mini bus load of us went to this one. At the time, some of us were into rum & black, Andy just over did it ! He ended up falling asleep, laying on his side (recovery position almost lol) & vomitting…..there was dark coloured dribbles down his cheeks. When he actually came around, he was shaking. Either due to being cold or, more likely, maybe even alcohol poisoning ! Obviously, when he asked me to hold him, i told him to fuck off! lol Over the years, both he & the other lads, “progressed” to taking in boxes of wine ! Myself, i didn’t really induldge as i’d mostly be either driving us there or needed a clear head to record the sets 😉
Years later i managed to find full audio recordings of every band that played. Sounds really good quality 🙂
I’m unsure which night was the school bus trip & which was the one my dad drove us to. But, i remember hanging around afterwards & joining a line to meet/get autographs from Motorhead. Strange how things can stand out : I remember i got along to Fast Eddie & his pen stopped working. He squiggled on his boot & got it working again…
Oh yeah, another memory is that whilst at this show i got my first proper boot to the head (actually, my nose & i thought it might have been broken)
Motorhead was the first band that i saw more than once on the same tour. My dad drove us to one show & the other was a school bus trip. I remember my dad saying ” Why would you want to see them more than once ?” Even back then, i just KNEW it would be worth seeing more than once. I mean, you go one show & what if you catch the band on an off night? Or at another venue, the crowd is so much better than others ? Already i was questioning it all….
